Robert C. Murphy
Robert C. Murphy is a former lawyer and jurist from Baltimore County, Maryland. Murphy was appointed by Governor Marvin Mandel to serve as Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals, later renamed the Maryland Supreme Court, from 1972 to October 1996. The Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building, located in the state capital of Annapolis, Maryland, was named after him.
Murphy was born in Baltimore on October 9, 1926. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. In 1952, he was admitted to the Maryland bar after he graduated from the University of Maryland Law School. He worked for the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland from 1955 to 1966, and in 1966 he became Attorney General.
Murphy passed away on October 31, 2000.[1]
