I have lived in Chula Vista for 20 years, where I raised my now two adult daughters with my wife, Yvonne, of 24 years. We moved here from the San Diego State area, where I received my Bachelors in Public Administration, as well as a Masters from the University of San Diego in Leadership Studies. We moved here because of the excellent schools, safety and family community environment. Three things that I want to make sure we maintain and even enhance.

As a long time business owner and a Director of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, I am committed to bringing positive change to our city. We need to help support small business recovery, from the economic effects of the pandemic, as well as attract new businesses that enhance our community: new children activities, healthcare, nice new restaurants & entertainment options and a four year University that gives our children a better future and our community more local jobs.

This smart, planned economic development also ensures that we will always properly fund police, fire and infrastructure throughout the city. My father-in-law is a retired Chula Vista Police Sergeant and we have multiple fire fighter friends, so we understand their sacrifice. Safety and prevention are crucial; this is why I sit on the Measure A Oversight Committee, which not only helps fund police and fire, but makes sure we are using these tax dollars wisely.

  • Safety and Prevention are Crucial: This is why I sit on the Measure A Oversight Committee, which not only helps fully fund police and fire, but makes sure we are using these tax dollars wisely. My father-in-law is a retired Chula Vista Police Sergeant and I have multiple fire fighter friends, so I understand their commitment and sacrifice and support them completely. We have a shortage of qualified candidates for police, fire and EMTs throughout the state, so we need to make sure we are paying them well and attracting the best candidates to our city.
  • Strong Business Environment: As a long time Business Owner and a Director of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, I am committed to bringing positive economic change to our city. We need to help support small business recovery, from the economic effects of the pandemic, as well as attract new businesses that enhance our community: new children activities, healthcare, nice new restaurants & entertainment options and a four year University that gives our children a better future and our community more local jobs. We also need to make sure we have strong contracts in place, so we are never held hostage again by a city service provider, like whole trash debacle.
  • Better Chula Vista: I am a hard worker that can bring people together to achieve results. I learned my collaborative approach through my leadership education at the University of San Diego and also working for the Hotel Del Coronado, as well as the Marriott Corporation. At the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, I served as the Guest Relations Manager and Total Quality Management Chair. Not only did I oversee a 1,355 room hotel at night, I was in charge of our continuous improvement process for problems resolved and reducing problems experience. In this role I also trained over 1,000 employees on guest satisfaction, reducing problems and improving processes. All things that I think we all can agree the city desperately needs.
There is only one Chula Vista City Council District 1 Candidate that truly has housing experience. That is Yours Truly. As a Realtor for over 20 years, a 2022 Regional Chair for the California Association of Realtors and our 2023 Regional Representative for Homeownership and Housing Committee, I will be the only candidate that will have a seat at the table next year. I want to create innovative housing solutions that give our workforce families: educators, military, fire fighters, law enforcement, medical providers and other first responders an affordable place to "own" and live. I want our children and workforce to be able to live in the community they serve. The million dollar question is: how do we do that? You have to start with good paying jobs, less red tape and opportunities for buyers. The city and/or state could give incentives for builders and apartment complex owners to convert their inventory into home ownership opportunities. The renters would have first right of refusal to purchase at market rate. But to make this possible, the renters would receive down payment assistance in the form of a silent second, that would be paid off when the home is sold or through a state grant. At the same time, we would need to add housing supply in areas that have mass transit, that are already zoned for it. I am for smart, master planned growth, like the communities we already have in Rolling Hills, Eastlake, Rancho Del Rey, San Miguel Ranch, Saint Claire, College Estates, etc
My father, Dean, has had a great influence on my life. He raised me and my older brother and sister as a single parent. He was an extremely hard worker who dedicated his life to making sure all of us were self sufficient, but also thoughtful and grateful for others contributions. My father started out sweeping lots and various other duties for a restaurant chain, White Castle, in Indianapolis, Indiana. When he retired, he was the Area Manager of 20+ restaurants throughout Indiana. While working his way up through the ranks, he made sure he was always there for his kids: school, coaching our baseball teams and providing us with tools to be successful. At a young age, he bought us a lawn mower. The deal was, we had to cut our own grass, but we could use the mower to get other jobs from our neighbors. We all became entrepreneurs at a very young age. Because my father was such a great role model for his family and the community, it has given me the appreciate of results from hard work and the joy of giving back to your community.
