Robert Doggart
Robert Rankin Doggart was a 2014 independent candidate seeking election to the U.S. House to represent the 4th Congressional District of Tennessee.[1] He was defeated by incumbent Scott DesJarlais (R) in the general election on November 4, 2014.[2]
Biography
Doggart earned his A.S./AS-T, BS/A-ST from Thomas A. Edison State College in 1994. He went on to earn his MBA and Ph.D. from LaSalle University in 1999.[3]
Professionally, Doggart has worked in the nuclear, fossil, hydroelectric and associated engineering fields for the past 40 years. At the time of his candidacy, Doggart was working as a certified quality engineer for the American Society for Quality. He had been with the company since 1980.[3]
Issues
Mosque burning plot
In July 2015, Doggart was indicted by a federal grand jury for plotting to burn down a mosque in Hancock, New York. On his Facebook page he wrote that the mosque: "must be utterly destroyed in order to get the attention of the American people." A guilty plea deal was rejected by a judge when he was arrested in April 2015.[4]
