Robert Doumar
Robert George Doumar was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Doumar assumed senior status on April 30, 1996. He left office on November 4, 2023, when he died.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Doumar graduated from the University of Virginia with his bachelor's degree in 1951 and from the University of Virginia School of Law with his LL.B. in 1953. Doumar earned a LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1988.[2]
Military service
Doumar served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.[2]

Doumar was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia by Ronald Reagan on November 5, 1981, to a seat vacated by Richard Kellam. Doumar was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on December 3, 1981, and he received his commission the same day. Doumar elected to take senior status beginning on April 30, 1996. He was succeeded in this position by Jerome Friedman.[2][3] He left office on November 4, 2023, when he died.[1]
