Robert Garagiola
Robert Garagiola is a former Democratic member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 15 from 2002 to September 1, 2013. He served as the Majority Leader from 2011 to September 2013. He resigned in order to spend more time with his family.[1]
Garagiola earned his B.S in political science from Rutgers University in 1994 and his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2001.[2] He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1995 to 2001.

Issues
Transportation Tax Proposal
In the 2011 session, Garagiola proposed a tax package that would add $400 to $600 million per year into the transportation trust fund. He also proposed a constitutional amendment to put the money in a "lockbox"so it can't be used for other purposes, according to a MarylandReporter.com article.[3]
Endorsements
2012
Garagiola was endorsed by the SEIU on December 21, 2011.[4] The organization Greater Greater Washington has also endorsed Garagiola in the race for the 6th District.[5] Garagiola was endorsed by other noteworthy organizations League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, as well as MoveOn.org and numerous labor unions.[6] The organization Progressive Maryland has endorsed Garagiola in the race for Roscoe Bartlett's seat in the 6th District.[7][8] Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley endorsed Garagiola for the primary on March 29, 2012.[9]
Elections
2012
Garagiola ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Maryland's 6th District. Garagiola sought the nomination on the Democratic ticket, but he was defeated by John Delaney in the April 3, 2012, primary.[10]
The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run was January 11, 2012.[11]
2010

Garagiola defeated Republican candidate Dwight Patel by a margin of 25,648 to 14,570 in the November 2 general election.[12]
In the September 14 primary election, Garagiola ran unopposed.[13]

On November 7, 2006, Garagiola ran for District 15 of the Maryland State Senate, beating Bill Askinazi.[14]
Garagiola raised $193,471 for his campaign.[15]
