Grady worked in several capacities for Republican congresswoman Millicent Fenwick from 1979 to 1983. He began as a legislative assistant for energy and the environment and then became the congresswoman's legislative director, and later, chief of staff.[1]
From 1983 to 1986, Grady was the director of communications for then-governor of New Jersey, Thomas Kean, Sr.[1]
In 1988, Grady served as a speechwriter for the Bush-Quayle presidential campaign. During the George H.W. Bush administration, Grady worked for the White House Office of Management and Budget, where he oversaw budget policies for several departments of the federal government, including the departments of the interior, agriculture, and energy. He later became a policy advisor to President Bush.[1]
From 2010 to 2014, Grady was the chair for the New Jersey State Investment Council, the entity which manages pensions and investments for New Jersey's public employees.[3] From 2010 to 2013, Grady also served as an economic advisor to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.[1]
