Robert Hasson
Robert Hasson was the Maine commissioner of education from 2017 to 2019. He was appointed to the position by Maine Governor Paul LePage (R) in November 2016 to succeed former acting officeholder Debra Plowman. Hasson was confirmed to the office on March 30, 2017.[1]
Biography
Hasson served as the director of certification for the Maine Department of Education from February 2016 to November 2016. He previously worked as the deputy executive director for the Maine School Management Association, as the executive director of the Maine School Superintendents Association, and as the superintendent of MSAD 51.[2]

Commissioner of education (2016-2019)
Debra Plowman's tenure as acting commissioner expired in November 2016 and Governor Paul LePage (R) appointed Hasson as her successor. Hasson assumed office on November 24, 2016.[3][1]
Bill Beardsley, who was appointed acting deputy commissioner of education in May 2016, had assumed the majority of the commissioner's responsibilities during Plowman's tenure. Beardsley resigned from the position, citing personal reasons, in December 2016.[4]
On February 21, 2017, LePage's office announced the governor's intention to formally nominate Hasson as the Maine commissioner of education.[5] The Maine State Senate confirmed Hasson to the position on March 30, 2017.[1]
