Robert Hawthorne
Robert D. Hawthorne is a former judge on the Colorado Court of Appeals. He served on the court from 2005 to 2020. Hawthorne was appointed to the court by Republican Gov. Bill Owens on August 12, 2004, and sworn in on January 28, 2005.[1] He was retained by voters in 2008 and again in 2016.[2] Hawthorne retired on February 13, 2020.[3]
Education
Hawthorne received his B.A. in pre-law studies from Louisiana State University at Monroe in 1970 and his J.D. from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1973.[1]
Military service
Hawthorne served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1970 to 1976.
Career
Prior to his judicial appointment, Hawthorne practiced law for over 30 years as in-house counsel for a labor union, a deputy district attorney, a civil and criminal defense trial attorney, and a transactional counselor to private and municipal clients. He also served as District 11 Commissioner for the Colorado Department of Transportation from 2003 to 2004.[1]
