Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Dana Rohrabacher (R) defeated Suzanne Savary (D) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Rohrabacher and Savary defeated Robert John Banuelos (D) in the top-two primary on June 7, 2016.[3][4]
