Campaign themes

2014

Keesler's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Job Growth

  • Excerpt: "As a small businessman, I know that we can do more to remove the red tape that serves as a barrier to smaller operations. Tax incentives for small business won’t suffice because they only help after a small business is already established. Some other states and municipalities have adopted this tactic and received great results. This would give our economy the jumpstart that it needs in all sectors."

Would you vote to raise taxes to improve the state’s transportation infrastructure?

  • Excerpt: "Our transportation infrastructure should be maintained and improved because that is a fundamental function of state government. However, we do not need to raise taxes in order to maintain this infrastructure."
  • Excerpt: "I am very confident that we can make the necessary improvements by implementing cost saving innovations to our education, social safety net, and criminal justice systems without having to raise taxes."

Would you support higher property taxes statewide to fund efforts to clean up Delaware’s waterways?

  • Excerpt: "I strongly disagree in taxing Delawareans in order to subsidize companies for the cleanup of their pollution. Those who pollute should pay and consider it a cost of doing business instead of being given the opportunity for a bail-out at the expense of taxpayers."

Should the state cut casino taxes, or provide other kinds of financial relief?

  • Excerpt: "We should not bail-out business at the expense of taxpayers. Using gaming revenue to balance our state budget is very irresponsible. Instead of a bailout, we should have restored their former tax rate from 43.5% to 36% so we could remain competitive with surrounding states."

Would you support a raise next year for Delaware state employees?

  • Excerpt: "All public sector salaries should be commensurate with their private sector counterparts. We should not be playing favorites as to which state employees receive raises, like has been supported by previous Delaware political figures. It is an unfair political tactic that grants salary increases to a select few instead of all."
