I have lived in

Falmouth since 1993 with my wife, Joy, and our son who was en- rolled in the Falmouth school system from 1998 through 2009. An attorney with broad labor and employment law experience, I have also handled school law and special education matters for students and families. As a lifelong learner, while winding down my law practice, I earned a Certificate in Construction Tech- nology in May 2023 from Southern Maine Community

College.

Adding process driven governance experience, providing good stewardship of school system and resources, bringing broader community representation.
First, dedication to task rather than party. Second, recognizing all constituencies being represented. Third, begin by listening to the public.
20-A Maine Rev. Stat. §1001 lists the following school board duties:

1. adopt policies
2. manage school property
3. select superintendent
4. allow use of school property including for political activity
5. manage insurance and employee benefits, including participation in self-funded pools, participation in workers’ compensation self-insurance programs, group health insurance coverage, and group self-insurance
6. adopt courses of study
7. establish tuition for nonresident attendance
8. operate preschool programs, kindergarten, and grades one through 12
9. administer, pursuant to due process standards, any student expulsion proceedings, including expulsions related to firearms, discipline of children with disabilities, provide for reentry after expulsion, address continuing services after expulsion of child with disability
10. manage physiology and hygiene
11. adopt policy governing selection of educational materials including approval of education materials
12. manage exclusion for lack of immunization and any exposure to communicable diseases
13. adjust salaries of staff on yearly contracts
14. ensure nondiscriminatory hiring practices
15. oversee insurance purchases by competitive bidding
16. adopt student code of conduct and disciplinary policies
17. develop comprehensive health – safety and emergency management plans
18. develop policies for managing threats
19. adopt policy to manage concussive head injuries
20. provide for public comment at school board meetings
21. communicate with school employees and the public
