Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. (b. November 25, 1957 Arbutus, MD) was the 2010 Republican candidate for Governor of Maryland.

He previously served as governor from 2002-2006. Prior to that, Ehrlich served in the United States House of Representatives from 1994-2002 and in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1987-1994.[1]

Born and raised in Arbutus, a Baltimore suburb, to car salesman Bob, Sr. and legal secretary Nancy, Bob Ehrlich won athletic scholarships to Baltimore's Gilman School and then to Princeton. While at college, he captained to football team ad belong to the Cap and Gown Society.

He practiced civil litigation in Baltimore with Ober, Kaler, Grimes and Shriver for more than a decade. Ehrlich's time as a moderate Republican Delegate was notable for his ability to hold onto a seat in a Democratic stronghold. After 11 years, he decided to run for public office in his hometown.

Ehrlich entered Maryland's House of Delegates in 1987 and served four terms. In 1994, he was part of the Republican landslide and began the first of four terms in the House, representing Maryland's 2nd District, where he served on Majority Whip's staff.

In the fall of 2002, Ehrlich defeated Democrat Kathleen Kennedy Townsend 52% to 48% to become Maryland's first Republican governor in 36 years. He served a single term before being ousted by Martin O'Malley.

Since 2007, he has been part of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice PLLC, specializing in business development. He was instrumental in opening the Baltimore offices of Womble, a North Carolina based firm.

His wife since 1993, Kendal, is also an attorney and is heavily involved in charity work. The Ehrlich have two young sons and live in Annapolis.

Ehrlich faced incumbent Martin O'Malley (D), Maria Allwine (G), Susan J. Gaztanaga (L), and Eric Delano Knowles (C) in the general election on November 2, 2010. Ehrlich lost to O'Malley.[2]
