Robert Leach (Washington)
J. Robert Leach was a judge on the Washington Court of Appeals, Division I. He was appointed to this position by Governor Gregoire on January 23, 2008, effective March 1.[1] He was elected and re-elected by voters in 2008 and 2014. He did not seek re-election in 2020 and left office on January 10, 2021.[2][3]
Leach served as the presiding chief judge of the court of appeals.
Education
Leach received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Washington in 1973 and 1976, respectively.[1]
Career
Leach worked as a lawyer in private practice for 31 years before he was appointed to the court of appeals in 2008. He had experience in the areas of real estate, commercial transactions, insurance law, contested probation proceedings, and tort law. He began his legal career in 1976, working in the Law Offices of Rudolf V. Meuller. He joined the firm Nielsen, Nielsen & Leach in 1980. In 1990, he joined the Anderson Hunter Law Firm, where he worked until he was appointed to the court of appeals. He also worked as an arbitrator, a judge pro tem of the Snohomish County Superior Court, and a Snohomish County special deputy prosecutor.[1][4]
