Robert Leon Jordan
Robert Leon Jordan is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He joined the court in 1988 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Jordan is a judge serving on senior status.
Early life and education
Jordan went to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1958 and with his juris doctor degree in 1960. Also, Jordan served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956.[1]
Professional career
Jordan has had a long and diverse career preparing him for the Federal Bench. First, Jordan started out in Private practice in Nashville from 1960 to 1961. In 1962, Jordan moved to Colorado to become a Manager for the Frontier Refining Company and served in that post until 1964 in which he moved back to Tennessee be in private practice work again in Johnson City, TN from 1964 to 1966. From 1966 to 1971, Jordan served as a trust officer for three different banks including the First People's Bank ub Johnson City, TN from 1966 to 1969 and from 1969 to 1971 for the Commercial National Bank of Pensacola, FL and for the First National Bank of Milton, FL. In 1971, Jordan returned to private practice again in Johnson City, TN from 1971 to 1980 and in 1980 served as Chancellor for the First Judicial District of Tennessee until he was appointed to the Federal Bench in 1988.[1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Tennessee
On the recommendation of Congressman Jimmy Quillen, Jordan was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on July 25, 1988 to a seat vacated by Robert Taylor as Taylor went on senior status. Jordan was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 14, 1988 on a Senate Vote and received commission on October 17, 1988. Jordan later assumed senior status on November 30, 2001.[1]
