Robert M. Murphy was a judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal in Louisiana. He was elected to the court in 2012 and his term would have expired on December 31, 2022.[1] He retired from the court on January 3, 2018.[2]
Education
Murphy earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1971 and his J.D. from Loyola University in New Orleans in 1974.[3]
Career
Prior to his election to the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, Murphy was a Division D judge for the 24th Judicial District in Louisiana. He was elected to this position on September 21, 1996 and served until his election to the Fifth Circuit.[4][5][6] He began his career in 1974 as a co-founder of the law firm of Gauthier and Murphy. He practiced there until his judicial election in 1996.[5]
2012 election
Murphy was elected to Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal after running unopposed in 2012. [7]
