Robert M. Restaino
Robert Restaino was a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 145 of the New York State Assembly.
Biography
An attorney by profession, Restaino received a Bachelor's of Arts in political science from Niagara University in 1981 and went on to earn a Juris Doctor degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 1985. He began his own private law practice over 25 years ago and spent the greater part of 12 years presiding over four separate Courts within Western New York. While serving more than a decade as a Niagara Falls City Court Judge, he also presided over two specialty courts, the Juvenile Justice Court and the Domestic Violence Court.[1]
In addition to his time as a Municipal Judge, Restaino served interim terms as Acting Judge in Buffalo City Court, Acting Niagara County Court Judge and Acting Niagara County Family Court Judge. Most recently, from 2008 to April 2012, he worked as a Special Assistant, Medicaid Inspector General, investigating Medicaid Provider Fraud within the County of Niagara. During his term of service Mr. Restaino identified more than $3 million in Provider Fraud, recipients who improperly obtained tax-payer funded benefits.[1]
Affiliations
Among his professional affiliations, Restaino lists membership in the Bar Associations of New York State and the District of Columbia, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Phi Alpha Delta International Law Fraternity and the Niagara Falls Bar Association. He is a member of the Niagara Falls Board of Education.[1]
He has been involved with numerous human service agencies throughout the area, including, among others, the Niagara Charter School, the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club, the Health Association of Niagara County (HANCI), the Music School of Niagara, Niagara Catholic High School, Community Missions and the Niagara Falls Public Library.[1]
A member of the Echo Club, the Cristoforo Colombo Society, the Knights of Columbus and the Polish Heritage Museum, Restaino has also been actively involved with initiatives of the Pine Avenue Business Association, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.[1]

Restaino ran in the 2012 election for New York State Assembly District 145. Restaino ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on September 13, 2012. He also ran on the Working Families Party ticket. He was defeated by incumbent John D. Ceretto in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]
