An effort in Galloway, New Jersey, to recall Councilman Robert Maldonado was initiated in January 2020. The recall effort failed after petitioners were not able to submit 6,528 valid signatures by the July 19, 2020, deadline.[1][2]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was initiated in response to Maldonado voting with Democratic councilmembers to appoint Councilman Jim Gorman as the mayor of Galloway. Maldonado switched his party affiliation from Republican to unaffiliated in 2019.[3]

Recall petitioners in New Jersey are required to submit valid signatures equal to 25% of the registered voters in the jurisdiction, as of the last general election. Signatures must be turned in by 160 days after petitions are approved for circulation. In this case, petitioners had until July 19, 2020, to submit 6,528 valid signatures in the recall effort against Maldonado.[1]
