Candidate Connection

Robert Matthew Sammons participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 27, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Robert Matthew Sammons's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Government Modernization

2) Adoption and Foster Care Reform
3) 2nd Amendment Rights[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I believe that taxpayers are investors, not simply revenue streams.  As the financial backers of our government, we have a right to ensure government programs are providing an adequate return on investment. When our tax dollars are not performing as expected, "We the people" are responsible for electing leadership with the vision necessary to modernize industrial age thinking and ensure that our investment dollars benefit our communities. I also believes that our government should be managed like a business, requiring transparency, performance, and results. These three basic criteria are essential for operating any organization efficiently. Our government is not an exception. My top priority for 2019 is to reform the adoption and foster care process. There are numerous things that the State of Ohio can do to make adoption free (our at least affordable). It begins with integrating new technology to streamline the qualification process for families, cutting unnecessary red tape, and driving down the cost of legal fees by strengthening the rights of foster/adopting parents. Fixing our adoption and foster care system is the quickest way to positively impact society and give displaced children a fighting chance at a future. It is also my belief that there is a place in government for social compassion, however, expecting something for nothing is ridiculous and a dangerous lesson to teach our children. Government dependency is detrimental to society and a threat to democracy. It strips recipients of their dignity and coerces them into forfeiting their God giving rights of "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" to the government in exchange for table scraps. That is why I support public policy, from taxation to education, from healthcare to welfare, that lessens state and federal interference in our families and community. In addition to reducing government dependency, we must firmly protect our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Lawful gun ownership enables Ohioans to exercise their God given right of self defense for the safety of their homes, their loved ones, and their communities.
