Robert "Bob" McDonald was the secretary of veterans affairs under the Obama administration. Former Secretary Eric Shinseki stepped down from the position in the midst of investigations into the Veterans Affairs' secret waiting lists for veteran healthcare. McDonald was nominated on June 30, 2014, and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 2014.[1][2]

McDonald previously served in the U.S. Army before working for Proctor & Gamble for more than 30 years.[3]

Biography

McDonald was born in Gary, Indiana, and he graduated from West Point in the top two percent of his class.
