Mittman ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent New York's 6th District. He sought the nomination on the Democrat ticket and faced Grace Meng, Rory Lancman, and Elizabeth Crowley in the June 26 Democratic primary.[2] Meng won the primary.[3]

Of the four, Mittman was seen as the long-shot candidate.[1]

Unlike the other three Demcorats, Mittman opposed the Affordable Healthcare Act and proposed other solutions to health care provision. He sought regulation on drug companies to lower the price of prescription medications. He also promised to serve just a few terms if elected.[1]
