The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. Robert Murphy was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Peter Lucido defeated Stan Grot in the Republican primary. Lucido defeated Murphy in the general election.[2][3][4][5]

Murphy was a Democratic candidate in the election for the District 36 House seat in 2010. He defeated James Winne in the August 3 Democratic primary. He was defeated by Peter Lund (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[8][9]
