Robert N. Opel II was a judge with the United States bankruptcy court, Middle District of Pennsylvania. He was appointed to the court on September 28, 2006.[1] Opel's first term was extended by six months in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.[2] From 2016 to 2019, Opel served as chief judge of the court.[3]

Education

Opel earned a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Oswego and a J.D. from Temple University.[4][5]

Career

Prior to joining the court, Opel worked at a private legal practice where his caseload was focused on bankruptcy matters. He was certified as a bankruptcy mediator in 1998, and from that time until 2006, he served as a Chapter 7 Trustee for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.[6]
