Robert Shannon

Robert Shannon was a judge on the Portage County Circuit Court in Wisconsin. He was appointed by Governor Scott Walker (R) on August 24, 2015, to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge John Finn.[1]
Shannon announced on December 15, 2015, that he planned to run for election to retain his seat in 2016.[2] He won a full term in the general election on April 5, 2016.
Shannon did not run for re-election in 2022 and retired in July 2022 at the end of his term.[3]
Education
Shannon received his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1985 and his J.D. from the Marquette University School of Law in 1989.[1][4]
Career
Shannon began working at the law firm Anderson, O’Brien, Bertz, Skrenes and Golla after graduating law school. He was named partner there in 1998.[1]

Wisconsin held general elections for local judicial offices on April 5, 2016. A primary election took place on February 16, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 5, 2016. Trish Baker and incumbent Robert Shannon defeated David Knaapen and Jared Redfield in the Portage County Circuit Court primary for Branch 2.[5]

The 241 judges of the Wisconsin Circuit Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections to six-year terms. All judges must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving after their term expires.[6]
The chief judge of each circuit court is chosen by the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[6]
Qualifications
To serve on the circuit courts, a judge must be:[6]
- a qualified elector in the state;
- a qualified elector of his or her circuit (for circuit judges); and
- licensed to practice law in the state for at least five years.
