On September 7, 2022, Telles was arrested and charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Telles allegedly stabbed and killed Jeff German, an investigative reporter who wrote articles critical of Telles while he was serving as a Clark County public administrator. German was attacked outside his home on September 3, 2022, and succumbed to his wounds shortly after.[1][2]

Telles pleaded not guilty to a charge of first degree murder, but on August 28, 2024, Telles was found guilty after two days of deliberation. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.[3] In his own defense, Telles stated, "I am not the kind of person who would stab someone. I didn’t kill Mr. German. And that’s my testimony.” [4]
