Robert Torres (Pennsylvania)
Robert Torres was the acting secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 2017 to 2019. Torres was appointed to this position by Gov. Tom Wolf (D) on October 11, 2017, following the resignation of Pedro A. Cortés (D).[1] He left the office in January 2019 to become the head of the state Department of Aging.[2]
Biography
Torres graduated from Pace University and Widener University School of Law. Under the administration of Gov. Ed Rendell (D), Torres served as the Pennsylvania Department of Health's deputy secretary for administration, where he managed records, human resources, and departmental contracts. Under Gov. Tom Corbett (R), Torres served as the state's health information technology coordinator, where he was responsible for working with private healthcare providers to launch the Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority. Torres then left government service to join General Dynamics, where he helped manage information technology services. He returned to government service under Gov. Tom Wolf (D), who named him executive deputy secretary of the Commonwealth.[1]
