Federal judicial career

Fifth Circuit

Judge Vance was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit by Jimmy Carter on November 4, 1977, to a seat vacated by Walter Gewin. He was confirmed by the Senate on December 15, 1977, and received commission on December 15, 1977. On October 1, 1981 he was reassigned to the Eleventh Circuit.[1]

Eleventh Circuit

Vance was reassigned to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on October 1, 1981. He served the court until his death on December 16, 1989.[1]
