Robert Edward Varner (1921-2006) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Varner was nominated by President Richard Nixon on February 10, 1971, to a new seat created by 84 Stat. 294; he was confirmed by the Senate on April 21, 1971, and received commission two days later.[1] He served as chief judge from 1979-1984. He assumed senior status on June 12, 1986, and served in that capacity until his death on May 17, 2006.
