Roberto Balli
Roberto Balli was a member of the Laredo City Council in Texas, representing District 8. Balli assumed office in 2015. Balli left office on December 23, 2020.
Balli ran for re-election to the Laredo City Council to represent District 8 in Texas. Balli lost in the general runoff election on December 12, 2020.
Although city council elections in Laredo are officially nonpartisan, Balli is known to be affiliated with the Democratic Party[1]
Biography
Balli holds a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. from Texas A&M International University and a J.D. from the University of Houston.[2]
As of his run for re-election in 2016, Balli was a criminal defense lawyer at his own law firm, the Balli Law Office. His professional experience also includes work as an adjunct instructor at Texas A&M International University and a first assistant district attorney for Webb County.[2]
Balli has served as chair of the Webb County Democratic Party and president of the Laredo Webb County Bar Association and the Texas A&M International University Alumni Association. He was named a Laredo Morning Times Readers Choice Best Lawyer in 2013 and 2014.[1][2]
Balli and his wife, Claudia, have two children, Isabella and Victoria.[1]

2016
The city of Laredo, Texas, held elections for city council on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was August 22, 2016. Four of the seven city council seats were up for election. The District 4 race advanced to a runoff election on December 17, 2016. Incumbent Roberto Balli defeated James Newland in the Laredo City Council District 8 general election.[3]

The city of Laredo, Texas held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was August 18, 2014.[4] In District 8, the candidates included Rachel Ibarra, Roberto Balli, Viky Garcia and Jose Luis Maldonado. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters - Balli and Ibarra - met in a runoff election on December 20, 2014. Incumbent Cindy Liendo did not run for re-election because she ran for Mayor of Laredo.[5][6] Ibarra was defeated by Balli in the runoff election.[7]
