My name is Roberto R. Robaina, and I grew up in the villages of Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates, Illinois. I attended District 54 and 211 schools and joined the Boy Scouts of America, even attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. I currently attend the same church that my family has attended for 20 years. And after high school I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from DePaul University and a master’s degree in higher and postsecondary education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Professionally, I am a college administrator whose career can be defined as one supporting young people’s successes.
  • I was fortunate to grow up in a special time and place. Like so many growing up in Chicago’s northwest suburbs in the late 1990s and early 2000s, I recall a time of feeling secure in our community while feeling optimistic about our future. Yet the policies of the past quarter century have not fulfilled the promises of this millennium—and I feel a calling to live up to that potential.
  • As an advocate for education, I believe all parents and students have the right to choose and attend the best schools. I’ve spent most of my career working in education and have seen what can go right and what can go wrong. I also believe that local services, especially senior services, must meet the highest standards and accountability.
  • From leading beautification and capital improvement projects, to ensuring residents receive exemptions to fight an over-burdening tax system, I will work as a trustee to make our township both appealing and affordable again.

I look up to Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower, and Queen Elizabeth II. I heard about these figures in school, but as an adult I appreciate the positive impacts they had on the world. I model my approach to public service on each of theirs.

Most of all, I try to live a life prescribed by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
To understand my political philosophy, read the works of Thomas Aquinas, Michael Oakeshott, Mortimer Adler, and Jordan Peterson...and watch every Star Wars and Lord of the Rings film.
