Issues in the election
April 26 candidate forum
Post 1 incumbent Jim McBrayer and challenger Alberteen Young participated in a candidate forum at the Antioch AME Church on April 26, 2014. McBrayer highlighted his teaching experience at district schools as a reason why he ran for the board in 2010. He advocated for improved communications with parents about the district's rigorous academic programs and accreditation for Advanced Placement courses. Young pointed to her experience as a budget director for Fulton County Schools as a valuable resource for the board. She suggested that the district needs to inform parents about declining test scores and increase expectations of students. The forum was hosted by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. and the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.[5]
