There was supposed to be a Rockwood Tax Override Measure on the May 4 ballot in Wayne County for voters in the city of Rockwood.

This measure was going to ask voters to allow the city to have a Headlee override, this was a state amendment passed that does not allow cities to increase taxes without voter approval or go over a 5 percent increase per year. The city council had decided to put this issue on the ballot because they saw it as a key way to help with the budget issue int he coming year and see the possibility of raising taxes as the only way to meet the needs. The city council though did decided to also reduce their salaries to help with the budget problems as well. They noted that more city public cuts would have to be made if the tax override is not approved.[1]
