Born in Seattle, Hearne earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Chicago.[1][2][3]

Hearne was a webmaster in the campaigns of Democratic Governor Gary Locke and Democratic Mayor Greg Nickels. He has served on the board of Progressive Majority Washington as well as Out in Front Seattle, a group that works to develop leaders in the LGBT community.[4] His professional experience also includes the following:

  • 2000-Present: Consultant, Hearne Associates
  • 2011-2012: Executive director, Equal Rights Washington
  • 2005-2007: Field service representative, Calibrate, Inc. (Instrumentation services for biotechnology companies)
  • 2004-2006: Campaign manager, Senn for AG (Statewide attorney general race)
  • 1995-1999: Coordinator, University Book Store[2]

The city of Seattle, Washington, held elections for city council on November 3, 2015. A primary took place on August 4, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was May 15, 2015. All nine council seats were up for election.[5][6] In the District 3 race, incumbent Kshama Sawant and Pamela Banks advanced past Morgan Beach, Leon Carter and Rod Hearne in the primary election on August 4, 2015. Sawant defeated Banks in the general election.[7]
