Rod is a Scout Leader, much of his time is spent teaching these scouts valuable life lessons and skills. Rod has been an outspoken champion for our students when it comes to what our children need within the educational system. He is a true advocate for our children. As a father himself, Mr. Velez knows the importance of a quality public education, having someone to look up to, and the role it plays in a child’s life. He continues to be a voice for those that feel they have none, listening to their thoughts, feelings, and concerns about our school system and community. Mr. Velez is committed to continuing to serve his community once elected to the School Board.
- I research all of the options that are available to me and I do not accept the first or easy answer. I listen to people’s concerns and try to help come up with a viable solution on the issues at hand. With my 20+ years experience in construction, I can provide insight and make sure we have well maintained facilities. Where our employees work and our students learn are fundamental to conveying the message that they are valued. I am the only candidate in District 1 that has 2 children currently enrolled in the BCPS system for the next 7 years.

- *I will establish an open line of communication with all of the families and the community, in person, text and email. *I will assemble a team that will represent me in all of the committees. *I will start visiting my schools and listen to everyone’s needs, concerns and access the building conditions.
