Rodolphe "Skip" Vallee is the CEO of R.L. Vallee, Inc., a Vermont company that owns several gas stations and convenience stores. He has been active in Republican Party politics since 1982 and served as U.S. ambassador to the Slovak Republic from 2005 to 2007. Marco Rubio picked Vallee to run the Vermont portion of his 2016 presidential campaign in July 2015.
Career
Vallee earned a B.A. in biology from Williams College in 1982 and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. Between Williams and the Wharton School, Vallee worked as a regional campaign manager for former Vermont Senator Robert T. Stafford (R) in 1982. He went on to work as a staff assistant for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Education.[1]
In 1989, Vallee founded R.L. Vallee, Inc., a company based in Vermont that owns several gas stations and convenience stores. He has been CEO of the company since its founding.[1][2][3]
Vallee worked as a member of the Republican National Committee (RNC) from 1999 to 2004. In 2001, former President George W. Bush (R) appointed Vallee to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiation, which aims to provide policy advice to the U.S. trade representative. Vallee served as chair of the Vermont delegation to the Republican National Convention in 2004 as well as finance chairman for George W. Bush's presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004.[1][4][5]
He served as U.S. ambassador to the Slovak Republic from 2005 to 2007.[1][2]
Campaigns & Elections named Vallee a top Republican Party influencer in Vermont in 2013. In July 2015, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) chose Vallee to serve as chair of his 2016 presidential campaign in Vermont.[6][5]
