Rodric D. Bray (Republican Party) is a member of the Indiana State Senate, representing District 37. He assumed office on November 7, 2012. His current term ends on November 8, 2028.

Bray was born in Morgan County, Indiana, and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1987. He received a bachelor's degree in history from Indiana University Bloomington in 1991 and a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1994.[1][2][3]

After law school, Bray was appointed as a deputy prosecutor in Morgan County. He went into private law practice in 1997. From 2003 to 2007, Bray served as Martinsville, Indiana, city attorney.[2] He was also chairman of the Morgan County Republican Party from 1998 to 2005.[2]

In 2012, Bray ran to succeed his father, Richard Bray (R), who was retiring after 20 years in the Indiana State Senate. He was elected to represent District 37, defeating Jim Cahill (D) 71%-29%.

Bray was named majority floor leader in December 2017. At the time, he was chair of the judiciary committee.[4] In May 2018, the Senate Republican caucus selected Bray to succeed Sen. David Long (R) as Senate president pro tempore.[5] Bray said, "I told them that I would be deliberative in my approach and try to bring people together to make good policy. My approach is to be practical and to build consensus."[2] The Senate elected him to the position in November 2018.[6]

In January 2025, Bray said, "Property tax reform, fiscal integrity, lowering health care costs and improving government accountability are all issues that are very important to me and my caucus[.] ... We look forward to a collaborative and productive session with the governor and our colleagues in the House as we work toward innovative solutions that improve our state for all Hoosiers."[7]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Indiana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
