Roger Boren
Roger W. Boren was the administrative presiding justice of the Second District, Division Two of the California Courts of Appeal from January 2004 to January 2017. He was appointed to the court by former Governor George Deukmejian in 1987 and was appointed presiding justice of Division Two in 1993 by former Governor Pete Wilson. Boren took his oath of office on January 12, 1993, and was retained by voters in 2006.[1] He retired on January 31, 2017.[2]
Education
Boren earned his B.A. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966, his M.A. in international relations from San Jose State University in 1968 and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1973.[3][4]
Military service
Boren was a U.S. Army officer during the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1979.[3][5]
Career
Boren's began his legal career as a California deputy attorney general, a position he held from 1973 to 1984. He was appointed to the Newhall Municipal Court by former Governor George Deukmejian in 1984. In 1985, the governor appointed Boren to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. In 1987, he was appointed to the California Second District Court of Appeal. Boren serve as an associate justice until he was named presiding justice in 1993. He served as presiding justice until he was named administrative presiding justice in 2004. He retired in 2017.[3][4][2]
Awards and associations
Boren was on the board of directors for the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for 20 years.[3]
