Flygare ran in the 2012 election for Washington House of Representatives, District 30-Position 1. Flygare advanced past the August 7 blanket primary election and was defeated by Linda Kochmar (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]

Military service
During his 2012 campaign Flygare said that he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. In September 2012, after questions were raised, he said that he actually served one year-long tour in the war and did not mean to misrepresent his military career. “It’s like a brain fart. I don’t know why I keep saying two tours in Vietnam,” he said.[4]
