I am a retired United States Army Colonel seeking to represent ALL people of Rabun County as a Constitutional Conservative. I live in Persimmon with my wife Laura. We are currently Realtors, founders of the Rabun County Spotlight, Rotarians, and make programmed donations to the Rabun County Sheriff's Office. We support the Georgia GOAL program. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University, and a Masters of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
  • Bring TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY to local government. Use the 'Open The Books' concept to voluntarily disclose quarterly financials, contract awards & hiring actions. Use referendums. Broadcast board meetings. Conduct town halls.
  • Manage the county government in a representative, limited & fiscally conservative manner rather than like a private social club that decides how to spend the members money.
  • Anticipate problems and prioritize the county's efforts to tackle difficult problems such as infrastructure, lack of housing, littering & illegal dumping, lack of services for seniors, etc without raising taxes & staying in the lane of inherently governmental functions.
Term limits, property owner rights, county ordinances & enforcement, building codes, senior school tax exemptions, land use planning, comprehensive (strategic) planning, transparency in fiscal execution, housing, police & first responder enablement, infrastructure & civil engineering & protection of natural resources (environment).
First and foremost, Jesus Christ. Beyond that, great leaders, writers, etc like Ronald Reagan, Henry David Thoreau & John Eldredge.
Many issues are uniquely local, but conceptually I believe in the federalist system, and the principles memorialized in the aforementioned Constitutions. Jefferson, Franklin & Reagan are some of my favorite authors on matters of government in America.
A belief in the primacy of the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the state of Georgia. Integrity. Servant leadership. Morals. Ethics. Unwavering commitment to being a steward of the taxpayers money. A deep-seated moral belief in representing all of Rabun's citizens.
Experienced strategic planner. Integrity. Commitment. Servant leader. Deliberate. Transparent. Conservative. Constitutionalist.
To restrain government from overreach, avoid litigation, provide for those services that are inherently governmental, let free market economics operate without interference, keep taxes as low as possible, break even, and anticipate problems and create solutions before its too late.
I don't care about a personal legacy, but I would like to think that I can help usher in a new era of local politics predicated on constitutional conservatism, transparency, and unity of community.
Gas line construction (summer employment during high school).
Wild At Heart, EPIC, Bible
Better Together- from my son's wedding.
Being away from my family during long deployments and other periods of military service.
I have not asked for endorsements, nor have I given any. The only endorsement that means anything is the vote of the individual.
It is paramount. Without transparency, accountability is elusive at best. The government should voluntarily be transparent and involve the electorate in the process. This is why I have advocated for Open Books (something my opponent does not support).
