Biography
Harris retired from education in 2010. He worked as a teacher and an administrator. During his career, he was named a Presidential Scholar Honor's Teacher, Cleveland County Schools Teacher of the Year and Cleveland County Schools Principal of the Year. Harris obtained a bachelor's degree in social studies education and political science from Appalachian State University. He went on to earn a master's degree in school administration from Gardner-Webb University.[3]

Five of the nine seats on the Cleveland County Schools school board were up for at-large general election on November 3, 2015.
Incumbents Roger Harris, Richard Hooker Jr., and Shearra B. Miller won re-election to their seats. The other two seats on the ballot were won by Jo Boggs and Jeff Jones. Harris, Hooker, Miller, Boggs, and Jones defeated George Falls, Yvette D. Grant, William Gray, Darius Griffin, Hal Hastings, L. E. Henson, Nikki Ledford, Ray Lockhart, Howard Mcleod, Howard Thompson Jr., Robert Queen, and incumbent Jerry D. Hoyle.[4][2][5]
