Roger M. Young, Sr.
Roger M. Young, Sr. is a circuit court judge for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.[1] He was elected to the court by the South Carolina General Assembly and assumed the bench on July 1, 2003.[2] He was re-elected on February 4, 2015, and February 3, 2021, to a term expiring in 2027.[3][4]
Education
Young received his undergraduate degree from Charleston Southern University in 1980, his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1983, and his master's degree in judicial studies from the University of Nevada in 2000.[5]
Career
Before he joined the court, Young worked as an attorney in private practice. He also served as a municipal judge for the City of North Charleston from 1988 to 1990 and served for two terms as an elected official in the South Carolina House of Representatives. From 1996 until he joined the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in 2003, Young was a master-in-equity for Charleston County.[5]

- 1993: Appointed Honorary Kentucky Colonel by former Governor Brereton C. Jones
- 1992: Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, University of Charleston[5]
