I’m Roger Oliver. My life is all about service. I am a retired career Army officer with experience in public finance. I directed a seminary and operate a K-12 micro school in Puebla, Mexico. I am bringing that passion and dedication to the Sheboygan Area School Board. On April 1st, vote for academic excellence, vote for experienced servant leadership, vote Roger Oliver. Hablo español.
  • In deciding to run for school board, I thought about all my country has given me. My conservative values and a patriotic sense of duty. A work ethic and the knowledge and skills to succeed. Plus, opportunities to pass these principles on to younger generations. I’m grateful for these opportunities and want to continue giving back. I’m Roger Oliver and On April 1st, I would be honored if you chose me to serve as your next school board member.
  • What happened to our public schools? Too many of our children are graduating without the language and math skills and the discipline to succeed. Radical ideologies have replaced emphasis on basic knowledge and skills. Student evaluations and discipline standards have been lowered. Looks good for the adults but it hurts our students. Our school district is no different. I’m Roger Oliver, candidate for school board. If you choose me on April 1st, I will address these issues.
  • I’m Roger Oliver, candidate for school board. If elected, my priorities will be first to encourage the board to hear from our citizens to understand the community’s values and vision. Second, to persuade the board to set 3 to 5 SMART goals to improve language and math skills in the next 3 to 5 years. Right now the district only meets the minimum requirements. We can do better.
Returning education to local control. Our poor performance is not because of our students, their parents, our teachers or the tax payers. The problem is the educational establishment and the elites who control it. Getting rid of the federal department of education is a step in the right direction. Cutting back the power and influence of the state departments of education is step two.

Removing critical pedagogy and its branches from education. That includes critical race theory, critical sex theory, social emotional learning and restorative justice.

The primary function of government is to punish wrongdoers and reward those who do good. Treating the government like it was a god always leads to corruption and tyranny.
The Lord Jesus Christ. As a Christian, he is my one and only hero and example. King David is a close second. Then my maternal grandfather. Other heroes of the faith and military heroes.
The Bible. The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate by Matt Trewhella. RJ Rushdoony, Institutes of Biblical Law Vol I.
Integrity and demonstrated high moral standards and traditional family values. Too many world leaders have no children and no vision for the future.
Integrity. Life experience and wisdom. Experience as an educator outside the educational establishment. Experience with public finance. Leadership.
Survey the community to understand the people's values and vision for their schools. Insure the schools policies support these values and vision. Set 3 to 5 SMART goals and a system to track them with the superintendent. Supervise integrity in the use of funds. The greatest portion of the budget should go to classroom instruction and reward good teachers.
I would like to be remembered as a man after God's own heart like King David. Christ must increase but I must decrease. I want to be remembered as someone who planted the seeds for a renaissance of liberty and responsibility in my community, that it would once again be among the best places in America to raise a family.
The election of Dwight Eisenhower, Ike. I think I was between 8 and 10 years old.
I had a paper route for two years as an adolescent. I held various other part time jobs throughout my high school and college years. Eventually I joined the Army, was commissioned and served for 22 years.
The Bible. It is the Word of God, the source of life and moral knowledge.
Never been tested beyond what I could endure.
To understand the community's values and vision for their schools and to ensure the district sets SMART goals and guidelines that match the community's values and vision. In addition, the board is responsible for the legal requirements place upon it by local, state and federal laws.
Students, parents, teachers and taxpayers
Focus on academic excellence and the diversity will take care of itself. We have had enough of the failed ideologies of diversity, equity and inclusion. They teach students to be victims instead of victors, blame shifters instead of responsible, disciplined citizens.
I'm interested in helping our low income families involved and interested in their students' education. The tendency is to blame the percent of low income families in the district for our low academic scores and to be complacent about improving student outputs for these students. It can and must be improved.
That which engages the students and imparts the desired knowledge and skills for the subject in question. Room for teacher creativity. Life is full of exams, there is no way around it. Student progress should be tested and the tests themselves should be evaluated. Creativity is welcome; so-called advanced teaching approaches based on radical political ideologies are not.
We need to get back to the basics first. Our children do not have the language and math skills or the discipline to succeed. A balanced approach to American history is desperately needed. Right now we are teaching children to hate there heritage. This is not way to build a future.
Let's be accountable for the millions of dollars we already have. What does properly funded mean? That is too vague a question.
Classrooms must be safe places to learn. Discipline problems are usually caused by a minority of students. It is not the school's responsibility to treat every psychological problem at the expense of those students who want to learn. Traditional methods of classroom management are not all bad and the school system is not what puts psychopaths on the road to the prison system. Read, Why Meadow Died.
I think it best to have a referral system in place to outsource these kinds of issues.
Remember, the cream always rises to the top. But then, so does the scum.
We should eliminate the human growth and development curriculum as it is and reduce sex ed to a class session in a high school biology class. No one offers any hard evidence that the program is necessary or even works except to groom children to be sexually active. I would eliminate social emotional learning because it is a product of critical Marxist theory and does not help. For the same reasons, we need to eliminate restorative justice and focus on victims' rights.
They need to learn enough basic knowledge and skills to think and understand. Then they should be given freedom to explore their talents and gifts in service to others. I believe in apprenticeship programs and work experience opportunities. Young people long to be productive and should be encouraged to do so. Strong relationships with the business community is essential to find outlets for our students.
I wasn't here during the coronavirus pandemic. Across the nation, it was handled badly. Closing the schools was a huge mistake.
The board should meet with parents outside the school district offices and hear what they have to say. I would like to sponsor a statistical survey of parents about what are their values and vision for their schools, what are the factors that influence their choice of where to enroll their children.
A person who loves his or her subject and loves the students can teach and better than a licensed teacher from the educational establishment.
Public finance is public. That means open and honest communication about where the money is coming from and where it is going. The people who make the decisions about how the money is spent and those directly responsible for accounting are accountable for the use of the funds with serious consequences expected for corruption or negligence. Before asking for more money, school districts must show improvement in students outputs.
