Roland Burris
Roland W. Burris was a senator representing Illinois. He was appointed to the position by former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to replace President-elect Barack Obama.[1]
Temporary appointment
Judge Diane P. Wood issued an opinion from her position with the United States Court of Appeals stating that Burris' appointment to the Senate seat was temporary. Judge Wood stated that the state of Illinois had to vote again in November to permanently fill the seat.[2]
