Rolando Olvera is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. President Barack Obama nominated Rolando Olvera to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas on September 18, 2014.[1] The United States Senate confirmed Olvera unanimously on May 21, 2015.[2]
Prior to joining the federal court, he was the Democratic judge of Texas District 445.[3] He was appointed the presiding judge of the 5th Administrative Judicial Region on January 4, 2011.[4] Olvera was re-elected on November 6, 2012, to a term that would have expired in 2016.
Education
Olvera received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1985 and his J.D. from University of Texas School of Law in Austin in 1989.[1][5]

Rolando Olvera received an appointment to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas from President Barack Obama on September 18, 2014. The president on the nominations:

The American Bar Association rated Olvera Majority Well Qualified, Minority Qualified for the nomination.[7]
Olvera's nomination was returned on December 31, 2014. He was renominated by President Barack Obama on January 7, 2015.[8]
The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing for Olvera on January 21, 2015.[9] Olvera was reported to the full Senate on February 26, 2015.[10]
Olvera was confirmed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas when the Senate voted unanimously on May 21, 2015. He filled the vacancy created by Hilda Tagle.[2]
