Rom A. Trader is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii. Trader assumed the position in January 2019 to succeed Kevin Chang.[1]

Trader was a judge of the O'ahu First Circuit of Hawaii from 2009 to 2019. He was nominated by Gov. Linda Lingle and approved by the Hawaii Senate in 2009. He left the court to become a federal magistrate judge in 2019.[2][3][4]

Education

Trader obtained a B.A in economics in 1984 from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He received a J.D. from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1987.[1]

Professional career

  • 1988-2009: Deputy prosecuting attorney, City and County of Honolulu[1]

Trader has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii’s William Richardson School of Law and as a faculty member at the Hawaii State Bar Association Trial Academy.[5][2][6]
