Ronald 'Ron' V. Gerberry (b. January 10, 1953) is a former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 59 from 2007 to August 21, 2015.[1]

Gerberry announced his resignation on August 7, but stated that he planned to resign on August 21. On August 21, 2015, Gerberry pleaded guilty to one count of improper compensation of a public official in a Mahoning County Common Pleas Court as part of a plea deal. The judge sentenced Gerberry to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine, all suspended, and three years of probation.[2] Gerberry overpaid political consulting firms over a period of two years and then had the extra money returned to him.[1]

Gerberry previously served on the Austintown School Board.[3]

Biography

Gerberry earned a B.A. in political science from Youngstown State University. His professional experience includes working as a personnel officer for Eljer Plumbingware from 1976 to 1978 and high school teacher from 1978 to 1982.[3]

Elections for the Ohio House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 6, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 5, 2014. Incumbent Ron Gerberry was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Paul D. Mitchell was unopposed in the Republican primary. Gerberry defeated Mitchell in the general election.[4]

Gerberry won re-election in the 2012 election for Ohio House, District 59. Gerberry was unopposed in the March 6 Democratic primary election and defeated Kimberly Poma (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[5][6][7]

Gerberry won re-election to District 59 of the Ohio House of Representatives.[8] He defeated Mike Pestian (R) and Patrick Manning (L) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[9][10]

On November 4, 2008, Gerberry won re-election to the Ohio House of Representatives.[11][12] He defeated Dick McCarthy (R) in the general election.[13]
