Campaign themes

2014

Hilton's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]

Improve Public Education

  • Excerpt: "Our children are the future and education is the key to a prosperous self-governing society. I will work for a public education system that is effective, responsive, and delivers the maximum value for taxpayer dollars."

Simplify Taxation

  • Excerpt: "Our system of taxation is much too complicated. The funding of education at the state level is especially convoluted. We can increase funding for education and simplify tax collection without increasing taxes."

Increase Voter Participation

  • Excerpt: "The right and duty to vote is the essence of a free society. Utah’s grassroots caucus/convention system is a valuable heritage that must be preserved, but at the same time we need to make the whole election process more open and inclusive. This ties in directly with my personal dedication to grassroots empowerment."

Decrease Air Pollution

  • Excerpt: "The winter temperature inversion causes the air quality along the Wasatch Front to be among the worst in the nation on bad days. Vehicle exhaust is the main cause. Solutions include increasing mass-transit ridership, carpooling incentives, and support for cleaner automotive technologies."
