Campaign themes
Lares states the following as his campaign themes and major problems facing the district:[1]
District Operating Budget — Recently, all district residents have been advised that the current budget is operating at an approximate 1.5 million dollar deficit. District Debt Service Obligation — Currently the Debt Service portion of your real estate taxes paid yearly at the current rate is $0.77 per $100.00 of your property valuation. The discussion at the district budget meetings could raise your rate as much as 40% very soon, this would be based on the assessed value of your home. Common Core testing standards — The cost analysis done by our own State DESE group approximates the cost around $125.00 per student, compared to the present approx. traditional testing costs of $3.00 to $5.00 per student. Unaccredited School Districts — We all have heard about the transfer of approximately 700 students from the North Saint Louis county districts of Normandy and River View Gardens to the France Howell School district. As districts become unaccredited what could be the debt burden for the Wentzville School District and its Stakeholders? Building of New Schools Our present building costs for the 3rd high school “Liberty” was approx. $40 million. It is going to take innovative thinking on the part of School Board members, Superintendent, Administrators, Principles and Stakeholders to keep taxes affordable for our expanding district.) |
