- As a two-term mayor, I have a deep understanding of the residents’ needs and the day-to-day operations of cities and towns. Through a series of collaborations, I worked to forge strong partnerships to spearhead over a billion dollars in public and private economic development and investment. The progress my administration fulfilled from 2012 to 2020 still benefits Northwest Indiana today.
- My history includes a strong record of protecting the environment and initiating environmental clean-up projects. I believe that protecting Lake Michigan and its tributaries is crucial to the future of Indiana.
- For several years, I have played an integral role in making the South Shore commuter rail double track project a reality in our region. My working relationship with the last two Indiana governors was a successful one. In 2019 Governor Eric Holcomb appointed me to the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District board of trustees.
