I’m Ron Williams, Mesa City Council Candidate for District 1. I'm a Desert Storm-Era Veteran, businessman & community leader, inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in 2022, due to sustained community service. Named “Most Influential Business Leader” by the Business Journal, I operated (3) business development agencies, resulting in over $100 Billion in contracts for Arizona businesses. I’m a 30+ year Mesa resident who has proven my commitment to Mesa boards; serving Visit Mesa; Mesa Police Foundation; and Chairperson of Mesa Human Relations Advisory Board; Mesa For All Foundation; City of Mesa’s 2050 General Plan Citizen Advisory Committee, working with City Staff to actively plan the City of Mesa through 2050. I entered this race for the love of Mesa, and want to ensure the safety & prosperity of our residents. Mesa’s not just a city; it’s a remarkable place to live where I’ve raised my kids, who’ve excelled as products of Mesa Public Schools. My volunteer background is unparallel. I say confidently, my lived experiences and volunteerism set me apart amongst others in this race. I cherish my time serving as Chairperson of the City of Mesa’s 2050 General Plan Advisory Committee, working directly with City Staff, listening to the needs and desires of Mesa Residents, and planning the City of Mesa through 2050
  • • Mesa’s Financial Stability & Quality of Life One of my top 3 goals as a city council member include maintaining financial stability for the city. We have some challenges coming for our city, and I just want us, as a city, to be proactive, to ensure we increase public safety resources to ensure safe streets, and sustain the high quality of life we enjoy in this city. My ultimate goal is to ensure the safety and prosperity of Mesa residents.
  • • Supporting Public Safety & Safe Neighborhoods My commitment to supporting our Public Safety officials is well documented. During the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic, while many people & organizations chose to hibernate and quarantine for safety, I continued my work to help bridge the gap between police and community relations, as President of the HeroZona Foundation. Police work by its very nature involves carrying out difficult duties that challenge the psychological well-being of even the strongest individuals. As a Mesa City Councilmember, I look forward to finding unique ways to increase police recruitment, and develop a solid and sustainable plan for retention of officers. I'm endorsed by the Mesa Police Foundation.
  • • Addressing Housing Needs of Mesa Residents I obviously can’t change the housing market. A lot of people want to live in Mesa. And, because there are not a lot of new homes being build in Mesa, I think we need to look at opportunities where they exist. One opportunity could involve looking at underutilized properties to determine the possibility of using those properties for potential attainable housing. Every opportunity should be explored.
I am personally passionate about Public Safety, Education, Housing and Sustainability. These areas are key elements in creating Health, Well Being, Economic Growth and Quality of Life.
I look up to my Mother. My Mother raised 6 kids on her own and unselfishly made sure we had what we needed before herself. I follow her example to this day, as I unselfishly serve my community through my volunteer work. Learn more at: ronwilliams4mesa@gmail.com
I believe an elected official must a have a compelling call to service, and have exhibited a sustained dedication and commitment to public service. I believe those that aspire to public office must have uncompromising integrity and high morale character. They should have a working knowledge of the major issues and challenges that they will be presented with while in office. Effective Negotiation, Communication and Consensus Building Skills are vital. Compassion is a high Priority to possess.
High Character, High Integrity, Committed to Community Service, Empathy for others, Bridge Builder, Consensus Builder.
Core responsibilities include influencing Public Policy, and working on on local processes and decisions on behalf of the community they represent.
My legacy is secure. I have been inducted in Various Halls of Fame, including the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in 2022 as a result of sustained community service. I have received a Lifetime Achievement Award for a Lifetime of Community Service. As a Top Business Executive, I’ve operated three (3) statewide business development agencies, resulting in over $100 Billion in contracts for Arizona businesses. I have lived in Mesa collectively over 30+ years & have proven my commitment to serving in this community.
The first historical event that happened in my lifetime that I remember is the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr; I was eight years old at that time.
My very first job was at the age of 17, when I joined the United States Air Force. I held that job for over 14 years until my voluntary Honorable Discharge after Operation Desert Storm.
