Biography

Ronald Brown was born in Columbia, Tennessee. Brown served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1996. He earned an undergraduate degree from Austin Peay State University in 1998. He earned a graduate degree from Murray State University in 2003. Brown's professional credentials include a Ph.D., earned in 2012, and working as a patient services assistant, in military intelligence, public healthcare, and program management.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Ronald is a graduate of the US Army Intelligence Center and School, Electronic Warfare/Signals Intelligence Analysts Course. Ronald's final assignment in the US Military was to 160th Special Operations Command "Night Stalkers", where he provided intelligence in support for operations in Haiti, Somalia and Bosnia (1992-1996). Ronald's prior assignments are 3rd Military Intelligence, Aerial Exploitation BN, Korea. Ronald was the Section Chief, for the Quick LooK II aerial collection asset, and was responsible to conduct intelligence collection activities along the demilitarized zone known as the 38th parallel, or the border between North and South Korea. Ronald upon completion of military service accepted a position as Patient Services Assistant, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). During his tenure at DVA Ronald received several awards, laudatory comments, and yearly gratuities for performance (2013-2019). Ronald worked a second job an Instructor at Ross College formerly known as Brown Mackie College. Ronald provided courses on the US Constitution, the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches of the US government. In 2013 while working in DVA Ronald competed with over 1200 other US Federal employee's and was one of the selectees among 300 selected to be Presidential Management Fellows (Finalist) Class of 2013.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Foreign Policy, Healthcare, Military, Reparation's , Intelligence gathering and use.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My mother and father who raised me. Both had strong work ethics, where honest, peaceful, and projected great strength during the civil rights era. My Grandmother who was a kind and loving woman, but demanding, I always felt safe with my family. My grandmother taught me the importance of education, discipline, and honesty. In my adulthood I admired, the strength, integrity, intellect, and the ability to capture the imagination of people demonstrated by people such as Nelson Mandela, George Herbert Walker Bush, Tip O'Neill, George S. Patton, Bass Reeves, Muhammad Ali, and Danny Glover men who in my best estimate set high standards, were unselfish, and sincere in word and deed.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The Bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Alabama (1963) I was 6 years old. The assassination of John Kennedy (1963) I was 6 years old. I was 8 when Malcom X was assassinated (1965). I was 11 when Martin King, and Robert Kennedy where assassinated. The integration of schools in Columbia, TN, (1968), I was 11 years old and would attend junior high school at Whithorne Junior High School, Columbia TN. When the Apollo Moon Landing took place when I was 12 years old (1969).

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was planting flowers for people in my neighborhood. I subsequently was employed as a paperboy and delivered the Daily Herald, on bicycle, in Columbia Tennessee. My news paper route was my out of school summer job. I worked as a grocery clerk for Lovett's IGA Columbia, TN. As a grocery clerk I learned about paying individual income taxes. While in high school I worked as a construction assistant for my high school shop teacher, Mr. Howell. I worked for Mr. Howell my last two years of high school.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Power Robert Greene. The book offers a comprehensive view of the use, application, and strategy for personal power.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Jason the leader in the movie. Jason and the Argonauts.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

There are many depending on my mood. I would say the last was, The Last Poet . Title of Song: Blessed are those who Struggle.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Finding a job commensurate with my education .

What process do you favor for redistricting?

Use a third party to monitor, and evaluate the effect of redistricting

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

Access to information, critical thinking, and formal education

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

Yes

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Race issues, Militias and Gangs, Educating the public on all aspects of the US good and bad.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Excellent Customer Service. Resource distribution and allocation, Education fit for the future, Jobs of the future in solar, wind, natural gas. Clean air, water, and the preservation of national parks and public beaches. Healthcare that does not means there is a medical facility in your community, but you can receive care at that facility. Healthcare for which all consumers pay from their income a portion of the cost to maintain medical facilities, staff, etc. Foreign policy that will have Congress declare war, not the President. Review stand your ground laws for their Constitutionally and impact on society. Leave Guns in the hands of their owners, period.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My mother, father and grandmother. I called them the three kings. My mother was protective but not overbearing, she worked at the hospital and the school. The father who raised me from 5 until 18 had a strong work ethic, was peaceful, was somewhat of a carpenter, auto mechanic, and later a Police Officer. My Grandmother was a peaceful and loving women who always showed us love and attention, but she was stern. As an adult I would follow the example of Nelson Mandela, never let hate own you, George Herbert Walker Bush, even in defeat be graceful, and Get out of Kuwait; George S Patton, stay on the offensive, but be flexible, Muhammad Ali, enjoy what you do and be confident in doing it. Danny Glover, acting is an imitation of life.

Clash of the Titans, Imitation of Life, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Raising in the Sun, Ben Hur, 300, the Spartans, Jason and the Argonauts.

I was six years old when the bombing of the 4 little girls in a Church in Alabama (1963).

Plant flowers for people in the neighborhood. Grocery store clerk for 1 year few months. Paper route at 15 years old, delivered papers during summer months. Construction worker for my high school building trades teacher, worked for two years.

The fast pace of life.

High levels, of education.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

I believe experience in government is critical, before entering the government as a law maker.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

(1) Healthcare (2) Individual rights and responsibility (3) New work environments, new products, less dependence on fossil fuels and more on wind, solar, natural gas.

There should absolutely be term limits.

Tip O'Neill, Jack Kemp, recently Mitt Romey and Harken Jeffries .

The story of a young man who truly believed in his country, and was excited to defend his country, by wearing his country's military uniform. The young man on a visit to a local gas station was made aware very quickly that the uniform does not matter, the color of his skin was much more important.
